摘要： A method for reducing small volume subcutaneous leaks of therapeutic fluids during procedures to refill an implantable medical device includes reducing pressure in a reservoir of the device. A refill needle can be percutaneously inserted into a fill port in communication with the reservoir and therapeutic fluid can be delivered through the needle into the reservoir. Reduced reservoir pressure upon withdrawal of the refill needle from the port can result in reduced subcutaneous leakage of the therapeutic fluid.

摘要： A system and method for a modular external interface for a skin penetrating appliance is provided. The modular device prevents internalization of bacteria, other infectious agents, or other unwanted materials from entering the access point for a catheter, Steinman pin, Kirschner wires, or other percutaneous instruments. The modular external interface provides for the hermaticity in the vicinity of the skin-appliance interface with fluid exudate or transudate egressing from the vicinity of the skin-appliance interface. The modular external interface forms a hermetic seal with the external neck of an implanted appliance with a locking feature that joins the main body of the modular external interface together around the neck of the appliance. The modular external interface provides mechanical stability to an implanted appliance so as to speed healing around a semi-permanent implanted appliance, as well as connection points for vacuum lines and drive lines for the insertion of medical devices.

摘要： A sheath (10) for producing a fully sealed access to the interior of a vessel of an animal or human body comprises a base sheath (20) having a tubular body defining a pass-through channel (22). The base sheath (20) is adapted to be inserted into the vessel through a vessel aperture. A wall of the tubular body of the base sheath has a through channel (27). This channel extends in the wall from the distal end (20a) towards the proximal end (20b). The channel (27) can be present separately from the pass-through channel (22) of the base sheath or can form a sideways extension of the pass-through channel (22), at least at the distal end.. Such through channel (27) is adapted to conduct blood from the vessel to the proximal end of the sheath when the sheath has been inserted into a vessel.

摘要： The present invention provides vascular introducer sheaths incorporating improved passive valves which can maintain hemostasis around medical instruments. A passive sheath valve for creating a hemostatic seal around a medical instrument comprises a valve body having an upstream end, a downstream end, and a lumen having an inner and outer surface therethrough. The valve body defines a sealing aperture that is configured nominally to remain open. The upstream end includes an upstream annulus region defining at least one opening and the downstream end includes a downstream annulus region. Each annulus region and lumen outer surface define at least one chamber. The at least one opening transmits pressure from the upstream end through the upstream annulus region so as to allow a fluid to enter the at least one chamber.
