    • An arch support (24) in the arch support portion (20) of a shoe may be shaped to the individual configuration of a person's foot. It is made from a material whose torsional deflection is greater than its longitudinal and lateral deflections and includes a layer of a thermoplastic material (26) and layers of a fabric (28,30) disposed on opposite sides of, and impregnated with, the thermoplastic material. The fabric contains threads disposed in two coordinate directions defining a warp (longitudinal direction of the shoe) and a weft (lateral direction). A heel of the shoe includes viscoelastic material (52) contiguous to the heel portion of the shoe to absorb kinetic energy. The heel includes a member (54) to convert kinetic energy to potential energy upon contact of the shoe with the ground and to convert potential energy to kinetic energy upon the lifting of the shoe. This member (54) converts potential energy to kinetic energy in the longitudinal direction of the shoe. Another member (40) at the ball portion (18) of the shoe stores and releases energy, e.g. in the longitudinal direction.

    • Embodiments herein relate generally to the field of footwear, and more particularly to components of performance footwear, such as midsoles, and in particular related to high-stability, multi-density midsoles. In some embodiments, the midsoles disclosed herein may protect a user from over-pronation and/or over-supination of the foot. Embodiments of the high stability midsoles disclosed herein may include a cushioning element and a mid-foot element. In various embodiments, the mid-foot element may be configured to mate with the cushioning element in the mid-foot portion, and may include at least one posterior tail configured to align with a medial or lateral edge of the heel portion of the cushioning element. Alternatively, the midsole may have integrated cushioning regions with different response property regions.
