    • The invention provides a laminate for inhibiting ethylene response in plants, comprising at least one layer of a polymer composition and at least one layer of a paper substrate, wherein the polymer composition comprises an agent that blocks binding sites for ethylene response in plants, a solvent having slight solvency or no solvency, and a polymer or copolymer soluble in the solvent and water; and a method for preparing the same. The present invention also provides a method for preparing the paper substrate laminate, and a method for inhibiting ethylene response in plants. The present invention also provides an aluminum foil-based or corrugated board-based laminate for inhibiting ethylene response in plants, comprising at least one layer of a polymer composition and at least one layer of aluminum foil or corrugated board, wherein the polymer composition comprises an agent that blocks binding sites for ethylene response in plants, a solvent having slight solvency or no solvency, and a polymer or copolymer soluble in the solvent and water.

    • The preservation or extension of the life of oxygen perishable products such as fresh or cooked meats; fresh vegetables and fruits; dried vegetables, fruits and meats; packaged pharmaceuticals or biologicals; open and enclosed marketing display cases of meats, fruits and vegetables; and packaging, warehousing and transportation of meats, fruits, and vegetables is obtained by subjecting such products to an atmosphere obtained from gas permeable packets (100) of an oxygen scavenging composition (106) comprising a sodium carbonate mineral (107) and one or more carboxylic acids (108). When the environment surrounding the oxygen perishable product is subjected to the packets (100) of gaseous permeable oxygen scavenging compositions (106), oxygen is taken in by the scavenging composition (106) and also the presence of carbon dioxide in the surrounding environment is enhanced thereby minimizing or eliminating the effect the oxygen on the oxygen perishable products.
