    • A method of adjusting a control signal generated by a sensor (16) is provided. The control signal varies as a pedal lever (14) rotates between an idle position and a wide-open throttle (WOT) position. The method comprises comparing target values (P IdleT , P WotT ) for the control signal at the idle position and the WOT position with initial values (P IdleNT , P WotNT ) at the idle position and the WOT position to determine if the control signal needs to be adjusted. To adjust the control signal, first (26) and second (28) trim resistors are laser trimmed. An intermediate target value (P IdleInt ) is determined prior to laser trimming and the first trim resistor (26) is laser trimmed until the value of the control signal at the idle position is substantially equal to the intermediate target value (P IdleInt ) . As a result, when the second trim resistor (28) is laser trimmed, the value of the control signal at the idle position drifts to the corresponding target value (P IdleT ) , thus eliminating the need to re-trim the first trim resistor (26) .

    • A brake cover ( 18 ) and shaft ( 24 ) rotate with a pedal lever ( 20 ) relative to a central section ( 14 ) of the housing ( 12 ) rotate a pedal gear ( 76 ). One feature resides in at least two elements ( 74 , 76 ) to interconnect the sensor arm ( 46 ) and the pedal arm ( 20 ) to reduce space while maintaining the requisite movement of the sensor members ( 58 ) over the sensor bands ( 50 ) and the other feature resides in spacing the braking mechanism axially from the sensor arm ( 46 ) in radially overlapping relationship to one another along the pedal axis (A).

    • A pedal assembly includes a housing (16) and a pedal arm (14) pivotally connected to the housing (16) with a first end supporting a pedal pad (12) and a second end forming a pedal pivot arm (26) . The pedal pivot arm (26) has at least one cam lobe (38) extending therefrom and the housing (16) has a cylindrical collar portion (30) recessed in the housing (16) for receiving and retaining at least one coil spring (24) . The interaction of the spring (24) between the pedal pivot arm (26) and the collar portion (30) generates a hysteresis effect. The collar portion (30) has a notch (32) extending through the side wall of the housing (16) . The coil spring (24) has a first distal end (34) seated in the notch (32) and a second distal end (36) that is in bias contact with the cam lobe (38) . The coil spring (24) is forced into frictional contact with the side wall of the collar portion (30) when the pedal arm (14) is pivoted from a rest position to an operative position to reduce the spring force of the coil spring (24) on the pedal arm (14) .

    • A vehicle control pedal apparatus (12) includes a support (18) adapted to be mounted to a vehicle structure (20) and an adjustable pedal assembly (22) having a pedal arm (14) that is moveable in fore and aft directions with respect to the support (18) .
