Because it is difficult to transport such receptacles efficiently, it is proposed initially to manufacture a semifinished article consisting of a sleeve-shaped part provided with a protective layer at least on the inside, which part is readily stackable and, after the very efficient transportation thereof, can be deformed at a second location into a conventional cylindrical holder, with subsequent fitting of at least one base. In order to deform a sleeve-shaped wall into a cylindrical holder, with the fitting of at least the base, considerably less equipment is required than for the manufacture of a completely cylindrical receptacle.

It moreover is possible by using a support (13) for the end wall which is smaller in diameter than the diameter of the body (1), to perform the seaming operation inwardly to a degree such that the final seam has an outer diameter which is substantially equal to the diameter of the body (1).

摘要： A method of packaging a heat transformation product, such as popcorn (6), in a rigid container is described. The mouth of a bag (4) portion formed from a film of heat-extensible plastics material is contacted with the mouth of the container in which the product is situated. The bag portion is collapsed into the container by a pressure differential so that the bag substantially follows the interior contour of the container and the product. The interior volume of the container and the bag portion are at least sufficient to contain the product in its heat-transformed state. Packages produced by the method are also described.
