    • A picture frame which is composed of a plurality of frame members (26) and a plurality of corner portions (10). Each corner portion comprises a block (12) and two arms (14). The blocks (12) are substantially rectangular in form and each has a slot (16) in one corner thereof whereby the slot opens through two adjacent faces of the block. The arms (14) are received in the open ends of the members (26) which, in cross-section, are of square U-shape. Once a comer portion (10) has been attached to a member (26), the slot (16) thereof forms an extension of the hollow interior of the member. The two major faces of each block (12) are different in appearance to one another and the major faces of the members (26) are also different in appearance to one another. The corner pieces (10) can be reversed with respect to the frame members (26) so that the appearance of the frame can be varied.

    • A shelf and display structure in which horizontal or sloping members (16, 18, 20) are mounted on a vertical element (12) by locking structures (14.1, 14.2, 14.3). Each locking structure includes a pair of arms (28) which are generally triangular in side elevation. Each arm has three grooves in the outer face thereof. The inner face of each arm is generally flat and merges at one end with a rolling surface. When two arms are placed in co-operating relationship with their rolling surfaces in contact, the arms diverge from one another. In this condition they can be inserted into an elongate mouth of the element (12) and the outer ends of the arms can then be pressed towards one another, the arms rolling on their rolling surfaces until the flat rear faces are juxtaposed. During such rolling motion the element 12 is deformed by the arms so that frictional forces are created which resist movement of the locking structures along the element (12). A horizontal member (16) or sloping members (18, 20) can be mounted on the arms by co-operation between these members and either the horizontal or sloping grooves. Knobs, hooks or other devices can be mounted on the members (16, 18, 20) to enable articles to be displayed or, where the member is horizontal, it can support shelves.

    • A connector for joining two components (32, 34) is dis- posed. The connector comprises a self-tapping or wood crew (16) which passes freely through the bore of an exter- nally threaded component part (10). The screw (16) is screwed directly into the member (34) or into a screw groove (42) thereof. The face of the part (10) which engages the member (4) is formed so that it bites into the member (34) so as to rotation of the component part (10). A second compo- nent (20) is internally threaded, the threading of the compo- nent (20) being compatible with the threading of the compo- nent part (10). The component (20) is received in a bore (36) of the member (32) and tightened down until the head thereof engages the member (32) and clamps it to the member (34). In another embodiment the screw (16) and component part (10) be replaced by a single unitary component. The single com-ponent is stepped externally so as to provide two sections of different diameters. Both sections are externally threaded and the threading of the larger section is compatible with the threading.
