    • A method performed by a monitoring centre for remotely monitoring a plurality of premises security monitoring installations, comprises: receiving reports from a local management device of one of the premises security monitoring installations of patterns of sensor data corresponding to movement and behaviour of occupants within the premises; and using a classifier to identify burglaries by processing reported patterns of data received from the local management device, the classifier having been trained to recognise patterns of sensor data that signify burglary events.
      A corresponding method is performed by a local management device of a premises security monitoring system installation, the premises used by occupants, and the security monitoring system having an armed state and a disarmed state, the method comprising in the disarmed state: receiving sensor data from a plurality of alarm event sensors of the premises; processing the received data using a classifier trained to discriminate between patterns of sensor data that signify usual behaviour of the occupants and patterns of sensor data that may signify burglary events; and reporting to a remote monitoring centre any patterns of sensor data recognised as signifying a burglary event.

    • A security monitoring system installation in a location, the location having a perimeter, and the system including a sensing arrangement to detect human presence within a monitored area within the perimeter, the monitored area comprising a plurality of monitored zones, at least one pair of the monitored zones being remote from each other, each remote pair consisting of a first and a second of the monitored zones, human passage between the first and second zones of a pair that are remote from each other only being possible, within the premises, via at least one intermediate zone that is adjacent the second zone of the pair, and the system having an armed at home state in which it is so configured that, in the event that:
      at a first instant human presence is detected in the first remote zone of the pair but not in any of the second or intermediate zones of the pair; and
      subsequently, at a second instant, human presence is detected in the second zone of the pair without presence having been detected in any of the one or more intermediate zones of the pair in the interval between the first and second instants; an alert is raised.

    • Provided is a method of automatically switching a security monitoring system of premises into a nocturnal armed at home mode, the premises providing accommodation for a household, and the accommodation comprising sleeping accommodation and living accommodation, the two accommodations being separate, the method comprising:
      using radio-based presence and location sensing to detect perturbations of radio signals;
      determining that the perturbations of radio signals signify that the household has vacated the living accommodation and occupied the sleeping accommodation;
      using time of day and stored information about the households' daily routine,
      applying one or more rules to determine whether use of the nocturnal armed mode is appropriate, and if it is appropriate switching the security monitoring system into the nocturnal armed at home mode, in which detection of movement or presence in the living accommodation constitutes an alarm event but in which detection of movement or presence in the sleeping accommodation does not constitute an alarm event.

    • There is provided a security monitoring system for premises, the system including:
      a Wi-Fi access point of a Wi-Fi network, the Wi-Fi network including a plurality of Wi-Fi stations, the Wi-Fi access point and the plurality of stations being configured to operate a radio-based location sensing arrangement to detect human presence and location based on detecting perturbations of radio signals of the Wi-Fi network, one of the stations of the Wi-Fi network being a motion-triggered video camera, the video camera being configured to transmit a notification to a remote entity in the event that it is triggered,
      the Wi-Fi access point being configured to:
      respond to the transmission of a notification by the video camera by using the radio-based location sensing arrangement to determine whether and where there is human presence within the premises; and, in the event that human presence is detected,
      generate a report, that includes details of where and when human presence has been detected;
      and to notify the report to one or more designated recipients.

    • Provided is a premises security monitoring installation having a plurality of alarm event sensors and a plurality of video cameras, a location sensing arrangement to detect human presence and location within the premises and comprising a radio-based system that is configured to sense presence and location based on detecting perturbations of radio signals, a local management device, to report alarm events to a remote monitoring station, the local management device being configured to: notify the remote monitoring station on receiving notification of an alarm event and to supply to the remote monitoring station location data from the location sensing arrangement, receive from the remote monitoring station a request for image data from an identified one of the plurality of video cameras selected based on the supplied location data; and supply the requested image data to the remote monitoring station. Optionally, the notification of the alarm event includes an identifier for each video camera for which image data are already available. Optionally, the request is for image data from one of the cameras for which image data have not already been captured as part of the alarm event.
