    • A one-way duckbill check valve assembly for allowing fluid flow in a first direction and for preventing fluid flow in a second, opposite direction comprises a valve housing (10,12) having first and second ports opening into the housing, and a flow regulator (14) positioned within the housing and including an outer wall (52) which is formed as a substantially cylindrical member. The regulator includes a pair of semi-circular valve lips (38,40) which are oriented in converging relationship to each other to form an outlet slit (28) at one end of the regulator. These valve lips are connected to the outer wall (52) by a pair of concave connecting walls (42,44) and the lips and connecting walls form a pair of cavities on either side of the outlet slit (28). A pair of elongated projections (68,70) are located along diametrically opposing sides of the outer wall (52) for biasing the outer wall inwardly whereby a biasing force is applied to close the lips (38,40).

    • A medical coupling site (210) adapted to be directly coupled to a standard male luer includes a rigid housing (214) containing an elastomeric valve element (216) comprising a tubular body having a wall thickness which progressively increases in a direction away from an integral diaphragm (234) which closes the upper end of the body. The housing (214) includes an annular flange (229) having a locking edge (231) which frictionally engages the male luer when inserted through a slit (236) in the diaphragm, to lock the luer in position. A pair of reinforcing ribs (244, 246) are formed integrally with the diaphragm and extend radially inwardly toward each other from the tubular body wall to bias the slit closed. The ribs are reduced in thickness intermediate their ends to form hinge points to facilitate flexing of the diaphragm when the luer is inserted.

    • A valve assembly for permitting flow in a first direction and for preventing flow in a second, opposite direction includes a resilient flow regulator (14) having a pair of lips (16) arranged in a converging relationship to define a normally closed slit (22) at the outer ends (20) of the lips. A housing outlet portion (10) defines a housing interior approximating the shape of the regulator (14), having a pair of planar surfaces (28) corresponding to the pair of lips. The housing outlet portion (10) further includes an annular collar (36) disposed outwardly adjacent the base of each planar surface. The regulator is disposed within the housing outlet portion with an annular flange (26) thereof contained within the collar (36) and with the lips (16) being adjacent to, but not in contact with, the planar surfaces. A cover plate (40) is attached to the collar for securing the regulator and for sealing the housing. Each of the planar surfaces (28) of the housing interior includes a raised portion (48) formed thereon adjacent its base and extending along at least a portion thereof. The raised portions (48) are each formed of a height sufficient to cause the raised portion to contact the lip surface adjacent thereto.
