摘要： The invention relates to a sheathed mid-section (1) of a catalyst housing, in particular for exhaust units on internal combustion engines in motor vehicles. The sheathed mid-section (1) comprises a steel sheet, wound around a ceramic monolith with an intermediate layer of a compensation material, surrounding the above with radial compression. The boundary regions (5, 6) of the sheathed mid-section (1) overlap each other and are welded together. The sheet thickness of the overlapping regions is reduced which are offset to each other perpendicular to the external side of the metallic steel sheet such that the sheathed mid-section has the same sheet thickness around the entire circumference, also in the overlapping region (2).

摘要： According to the inventive method for producing hollow profiles from sheet metal blanks (B), a slit profile is first formed from said blanks in at least two production stages, whereupon the slit profile is welded so as to form the finished hollow profile. For this purpose, a mandrel (8) is used which is assigned to one tool part (2) in the first stage and to the second tool part (3) in the second stage so as to form one respective gap (15) along with the recess of the respective tool part, one section of the sheet metal blank being inserted into said gap (15), respectively. By shaping the metal sheet blank in at least two stages, a mandrel which forms an independent structural unit and is movable as such by means of a simple positioning mechanism can be used for supporting the sheet metal blank when the slit profile is produced, resulting in the number of gears required for producing the hollow profile being significantly reduced. In addition, shaping the sheet metal blank into the slit profile in at least two stages increases the accuracy with which said shaping process is performed.
