    • An electron beam focusing device with two dynamic windings is provided for apparatus such as cathode ray tubes . The focusing device (12) includes a static field generator (10) and two (13),(14) coupled coils windings mounted axially adjacent or overlapped along the beam axis. The static field generator can be a permanent magnet and the first and second windings can be superimposed at the axial center of the static field of the magnet. Alternatively, the static field generator can have a winding in a magnetically permeable shield structure (11) with a gap (22) for concentrating the static field at an axial end of the focusing device, the first and second windings being superimposed on one another adjacent the gap and outside the shield.

The magnetic mass of the focusing device can be varied by changing the number of magnets and/or the length of the magnets in the array. The magnets are magnetized in situ in the array by energizing a winding (4) common to each of the magnets, after which the common winding is removed.

    • A low power consumption dynamic focusing circuit for a scanning electron beam device such as a television receiver. In particular the invention concerns a focusing device having a plurality of coupled dynamic focus windings . A focus deflection winding (L1) and an additional winding (L2) are coupled magnetically. A resonant circuit (C1,L2) produces a cosine current signal approximating a current parabola in the focus deflection winding, and stores a portion of the energy of the dynamic focusing signal. During retrace the stored energy is coupled from the additional winding to the focus deflection winding, returning to the power supply a portion of the energy, resulting in substantially decreased power supply loading.
