摘要： A plasma spray gun system with improved nozzle life. The gun includes a nozzle with a thin annular coolant passage and having a dimension optimized for nozzle life. The system also includes a deionizer to remove ions from the cooling fluid and a dissolved gas remover which also improves nozzle life. In addition, the coolant is treated to remove ions which extends nozzle life even more. Further cooling fluid treatment for even further nozzle life includes dissolved gas removal and heat removal.

摘要： A plasma spray gun nozzle with fins for cooling. The fins are designed in the region radially outward of the point where the arc strikes the nozzle to have a base width and a slot width and slot depth having advantageous dimensions. Coolant is forced through the slots at a rate to achieve optimum heat transfer. Accordingly, the design for the nozzle used in its desired manner provide a plasma flame spray gun which will operate for an appreciably longer time than could prior art plasma flame spray guns before a gun failure is likely to occur.

摘要： A plasma generating system comprises a plasma gun (10) including a hollow cylindrical anode member (24D), a hollow cylindrical intermediate member (26) electrically isolated from and juxtaposed coaxially with the anode member to form a plasma-forming gas passage (28) through the intermediate member and the anode member, and an axially movable cathode member (20). The intermediate member comprises tubular segments (24A-C) separated by resilient insulating spacing rings (30A-C) held in compression. Arc radiation is blocked from the spacer rings by meanders (90) in the inter-segment slots and further by ceramic barrier rings. An electric motor or pneumatic piston responsive to a measurement of arc voltage continually adjusts the axial position of the cathode tip relative to the anode nozzle (14) so as to maintain a predetermined arc voltage.

摘要： A nozzle assembly for a plasma gun is disclosed, containing an annular coolant passage for extended nozzle life, providing for convenient and low cost replacement of the nozzle member and for improved gun operation. To form the assembly a jacket is disposed about the nozzle member in a predetermined coaxial position. An inner surface of the jacket cooperates with the cylindrical exteriority of the nozzle to define an annular coolant passage. The jacket and the nozzle are in relative slidable relationship such that the jacket is removable and replaceable forwardly with respect to the nozzle member, forwardly being in respect to the direction of the plasma flame. Threading means and pilot surfaces engaged between the nozzle member and the jacket at the rearward end of the nozzle assembly cooperate to retain the jacket in its predetermined position relative to the nozzle member. The jacket has coolant ports for the coolant connecting with the annular passage. A seal such as an 0-ring is interposed between the forward portion of the nozzle and the jacket. A rear 0-ring seal is set in a groove formed cooperatively between a rear annu- lar surface of the jacket and a rim on the nozzle member.
