    • A joint for a superconducting cable joints superconducting cables with one another. The superconducting cable comprises a former, superconducting conductor, and insulating layer. The construction of the joint comprises the following steps: preparing a jointing ferrule for jointing the formers, sliding the ferrule over the end portions of the formers to be jointed, butting the end faces of the formers against each other in the jointing ferrule, compressing the jointing ferrule to joint the formers such that the compressed ferrule has a diameter equal to that of the former, butting the end faces of the superconducting conductors against each other at the outside of the compressed ferrule, and jointing the superconducting conductors with each other such that the jointed superconducting conductors have a diameter equal to that of the superconducting conductor of the superconducting cable. The foregoing steps can decrease the size of the joint.

    • A branch-type intermediate joint structure for connecting a first superconducting cable having at least one cable core including superconducting conductors and a second superconducting cable having a plurality of cable cores including superconducting conductors. The intermediate joint structure comprises a conductor joint part, a joint box, and a coolant. The conductor joint part can integrally connect the superconducting conductors of the at least one cable core exposed from the first superconducting cable and the superconducting conductors of the plurality of cable cores exposed from the second superconducting cable. The joint box houses the conductor joint part and the cable core ends connected with the conductor joint part. The coolant is filled in the joint box and cools the superconducting conductors.

    • The present invention provides a terminal structure provided between an end of a multiphase superconducting cable and a room temperature side, the terminal structure including a multiphase superconducting cable having a plurality of superconducting layers for flowing currents of different phases, the superconducting layers being concentrically disposed and separated by conductor-insulation layers; a refrigerant tank filled with a refrigerant for cooling the ends of the superconducting layers; leads electrically connected to the ends of the individual superconducting layers; and an insulating member disposed around the peripheries of the leads, the insulating member sealing the refrigerant in the refrigerant tank.
