摘要： With the disc-shaped recording medium, or the disc manufacturing method according to the present invention, for both the single-layer disc and the multi-layer disc, a recording layer L 0 , which is to be the first layer, is at the same distance, along the direction of disc thickness, from the surface of the cover layer CVLs on which falls the laser light. For the multi-layer disc, the second layer L 1 and the following layer(s) are formed at the locations which are closer to the cover layer CVLs than the first layer L 0 . Management information may be recorded by mobbling grooves, each layermay have tert areas, defect information, a replacement area. Thus, it is possible to improve compatibility, reliability and accessibility between a single-layer disc and a multi-layer disc. The spherical aberration for the recording/reproducing light may be controlled with respect to the selected layer.

摘要： A light beam reflected by an information medium is split by a diffraction optical system into first diffraction light and second diffraction light, which is not a complex conjugate wave of the first diffraction light, in a predetermined energy distribution ratio. The first diffraction light enters a first photodetector (195) of a photodetector and is used for reading out data information recorded on the information medium, while the second diffraction light enters second and third photodetectors (194, 195) and is used for obtaining a servo error signal. With this optical head device, the area of the first photodetector can be reduced, thus allowing a high-speed reproduction of a data signal. Further, the first photodetector becomes less susceptible to stray light. Moreover, the number of head amplifiers, which are needed for detecting the data signal, decreases, and the S/N ratio improves.

摘要： A first recording layer and a second recording layer among a plurality of recording layers have a recording film and a reflection control film composed of silver oxide, and the reflection control film is interposed between dielectric films. The reflection control film utilizes heat generated from the recording film by light irradiation, thereby forming a high-reflection region in a portion at a temperature equal to or higher than a threshold temperature for forming a high-reflection region. Thus, an optical loss in the portions other than a recording layer to be recorded/reproduced is reduced, whereby a light efficiency is enhanced.
