摘要： An embodiment of a transmitter system (200) includes a power amplifier (206) receiving a supply voltage (254) and a supply current (234) from a power control/current detection circuit (208). The transmitter system further includes a power correction module (224) configured to sample the supply current and to cause a change in a control voltage (242), which corrects the supply voltage in response to a change in the load impedance. The supply voltage is corrected to cause the power amplifier to have a substantially constant output power. The power correction module is further configured to output a corrected peak voltage (232) determined by an average value of the supply current. The transmitter system further includes a predistortion module (216) configured to determine the control voltage from a product of the corrected peak voltage and an amplitude modulation component (238) and to output the control voltage to the power control/current detection circuit.

摘要： A power amplifier (202, 330) is configured to operate in a first gain mode and a second gain mode. A first power amplifier input stage (208, 308) has an input and an output. A second power amplifier input stage (210, 310) has an input and an output, where the output of the second power amplifier input stage is coupled to the output of the first power amplifier input stage. The first input stage is turned on in response to a first bias voltage (222, 322) in the first gain mode and the second input stage is turned on in response to a second bias voltage (224, 324) in the second gain mode. Alternatively, a first input stage (208, 308) and an intermediate stage (212, 312) can be switched off by turning off their respective bias voltages (222, 322, 226, 326), and a second input stage (210, 310) can be switched on by turning on its respective bias voltage (224, 324); the intermediate stage and the second input stage sharing a common output.

摘要： A wireless communication device output amplifier configured to reduce or eliminate out of band oscillations from voltage standing waves generated by antenna impedance mismatch reflection. The amplifier is configured with an input, output, and biasing node. The biasing node is configured to receive a biasing signal from a biasing amplifier. The biasing amplifier draws current from the biasing node while providing the biasing voltage to the output amplifier. To reduce or eliminate out of band voltage standing waves from antenna reflections, a frequency dependant network is provided as a feedback loop to selectively provide feedback to the output amplifier to reduce or eliminate unwanted out of band oscillations, such as voltage standing waves. The frequency dependant network may comprise one or more resistors, inductors, and capacitors which are of small size and may be integrated.

摘要： A method and apparatus for biasing an amplifying device whereby the bias current tracks the input power or the power level of a control signal to thereby efficiently match the bias current with needs of the amplifying device. This method and apparatus overcomes the drawbacks of the prior art by biasing, not for maximum output power, but for the power level of the input signal or the control signal, hi one embodiment a current conditioner operates in connection with the self adjusting biasing circuit to scale or adjust, potentially on an exponential basis, the biasing current for one or more amplifier stages. A cancellation current source may be configured within the bias circuit to cancel unneeded current to further minimize current consumption.
