    • [Problem to be solved] To provide a flatbed knitting machine equipped with sinker devices capable of ensuring an appropriate arrangement space without increasing a height even when a movable sinker biased by a spring is arranged with a fixed sinker in a space between knitting needles.
      [Solution] A movable sinker 10 and a fixed sinker 12 are arranged between knitting needles. A spring 13 biases the movable sinker 10 and a side surface thereof is supported by a leading end part 11d of a sinker jack 11. The movable sinker 10 is driven by the sinker jack 11 from a lateral side and a lower portion of a thin thickness part 7a provided on needle plate 7 is positioned at a vicinity of a bottom part of a needle groove for accommodating the knitting needle, thereby preventing the need of increasing the height of the sinker device. The sinker jack 11 is also used for pressing the movable sinker 10 from the side surface at the side of the needle groove so as to ensure an appropriate arrangement space.

    • A sinker mechanism is intended for a flat knitting machine (1) having at least one front needle bed (2) and one rear needle bed (2), each of the needle bed (2) having needle plates (3) which are arranged at equal intervals on the needle bed (2) and knitting needles (4) which are disposed between any two adjacent needle plates (3) for advancing and retracting movement. The needle plates (3) on the front needle bed and the needle plates (3) on the rear needle bed (2) close each other with distal ends. The sinker mechanism comprises a row of sinker assemblies, each sinker assembly comprising a needle plate (3), a swingable sinker (24) next to a front region of the needle plate, and a yarn guide sheet (32) fixedly mounted to a needle bed. The swingable sinker (24) has at front end a yarn holding portion (27). The yarn guide sheet (32) has at front end a yarn guide edge (37). When the swingable sinker (24) turns forward with its yarn holding portion (27) moving down, the yarn guide edge (37) of the yarn guide sheet comes above the yarn holding portion of the swingable sinker and projects outwardly of the front end of the sinker towards the intermediate between the front ends of the opposed needle beds (2).

    • A method of stitch increasing is characterised in that, among compound needles inserted in needle grooves of first and second needle beds disposed with ends thereof opposed to each other, that needle in either one of said first and second needle beds which has a loop carried thereon is raised to a transfer position, and then another needle in the opposing needle bed is raised until it is inserted into the loop carried on the former needle, whereafter the two needles are lowered to cause the knitted fabric loop to be caught by the hook of the latter needle, and that when the needle which has been lifted to the transfer position is lowered, the loop carried on the needle being lowered is caught again in the hook of the needle being lowered so that the loop extends between the needles in said first and second needle beds.     • [Problem to be solved] It is an object of the present invention to provide a flatbed knitting machine, which is provided with compound needles, to be capable of making old stitches hardly to drop into hooks from tongues and also of making a knitting yarn which is to be caught in the hook in order to form a new stitch hardly to get caught on the tongue, and also to provide a method for controlling a slider of the flatbed knitting machine. [Solution] When a needle driving butt 22 is moved along a trajectory 22t and a hook 12a is thereby advanced into a needle bed gap 2, a tongue 13a opens a hook mouth of the hook 12a, so that an old stitch which has been formed in the hook 12a is transferred onto the tongue 13a and cleared from the hook 12a. When the hook 12a is withdrawn toward the needle bed 3, 4 side, a knitting yarn is fed from a yarn feeder port 7a so as to pass within a range through which a hook mouth of the hook 12a passes and caught in the hook 12a. A movable cam mechanism 40 provided in a slider cam 36 can produce a difference d in the position of the tongue 13a by switching action or inaction of a control portion 41a of a cam member 41 on a slider driving butt 23 near a centerline 7c.
