    • An anthrapyridone compound of the following formula (I) and which is useful for coloring resins:
      wherein X¹ is hydrogen, -NHCOR¹, -CONR²R³, -COR⁴, -SO₂R⁵ or -SO₂NR⁶R⁷, in which R¹ and R⁴ are each C 1-4 alkyl, R² and R³ are each hydrogen or C 1-4 alkyl, R⁵ is C 1-4 alkyl or hydroxyethyl, R⁶ and R⁷ are each hydrogen or C 1-4 alkyl,
      X² is hydrogen or imidomethyl of the formula (II):
      wherein n is a number of 1 to 2, X⁴ is hydrogen or carboxylic acid C 1-4 alkyl-ester,
      X³ is hydrogen, halogen, hydroxyl, C 1-4 alkyl or C 1-4 alkoxyl,
      with the proviso that X¹ is -NHCOR¹, -CONR²R³, -COR⁴, -SO₂R⁵ or -SO₂NR⁶R⁷ when X² is hydrogen,
      X² is the imidomethyl of the formula (II) when X¹ the hydrogen, is provided, which is prepared by allowing an α-haloanthraquinone compound with an acylated primary aromatic amine compound in a nonaqueous medium in the presence of metallic copper or a copper compound.
