The material generation apparatus is operable to generate and store the information material on a data carrier with material location data identifying a location on the data carrier of the information material. The digital assistant device provides a wireless communications link with the material generation apparatus. The material generation apparatus is operable in response to a request communicated from the digital assistant device via the wireless communications link for material location data identifying an event represented within the information material to communicate the material location data of the material representing the event. Thus, an event observed by a user during the production of for example video material can be logged with the effect that the material location data identifying the event as represented on the data carrier can be used to facilitate subsequent navigation through the stored video material to reproduce the event. The facility for subsequent navigation is particularly useful if the data carrier is a linear medium, the reference location data including time code data.

摘要： The present invention provides an editing system (10) and method for editing source content such as video and/or audio material to produce an edited content sequence, source metadata being associated with portions of the source content. The system comprises storage (50, 55) for storing a template (300, 310, 320, 330, 340, 350) defining a desired style for content, template metadata being provided within the template to define the desired style, and a processing unit (45) configured to apply the template to the source content (305, 315, 325, 335, 345, 355) by comparing the source metadata with the template metadata and to arrange the portions of source content in accordance with the comparison to produce the edited content sequence. This provides an efficient technique for providing an editor with a first cut in which the content has been arranged into a desired style, thereby avoiding the need for the user to spend time familiarising himself/herself with the content prior to performing editing of the source content. From this first cut, the user can then proceed to make any further alterations deemed appropriate.
