    • The present invention is directed to a demodulator for pi/4-shift DQPSK signals. The demodulator includes means (13,15) for rotating the reference phase axis in each symbol interval. The incoming signal is coherently demodulated (1,2), in such a way that the rotation of the signal and the rotation of the reference axis are never through the same angle, thus preventing the demodulator output assuming the zero level.
      According to another aspect of the invention, means (24 to 34) are provided for evaluating the changes in the locations of signal points.
