    • Apparatus and method for pressure and heat sticking a thin film to a base plate. The thin film (4) and a base plate (1) on a film like carrier (3) are introduced into a vacuum chamber (5) having upper and lower contact members (6a,6b) for compressing the thin film, base member and carrier into a stratified body. The thin film and base plate are held separate from one another in the chamber. The lower contact member moves upward to contact the carrier and base plate and to compress the stratified body between it and the upper contact member. The upper contact member is convex in shape and made of an elastic material so that the contact pressure on the film and base plate starts near the center and spreads toward the periphery resulting in improved sticking of thin film to the base plate with no air bubbles and no wrinkling. The pressure is applied in a vacuum or reduced atmospheric pressure and heat is simultaneously applied. A further compression in the air at atmospheric pressure is carried out by a heat and pressure roller (7b).

    • A thin-film coating method for laminating thin-films to opposing surfaces of a substrate and an apparatus for accomplishing the same. A pair of tack members 10E are respectively disposed on opposite sides of the substrate and are moveable in a direction perpendicular to the direction of conveyance of the substrate so as to temporarily tack forward end portions of the thin-films to the substrate. In addition, compression rollers 16 are movably disposed with respect to the substrate such that the compression rollers can respectively contact forward end portions of the thin-films after the tack members have been removed from the substrate. The compression rollers are rotatable to thereby convey the substrate and to cause the thin films to adhere to the opposing surfaces of the substrate. In addition, a pair of wet rollers 30 are rotatably disposed in contact with the opposing surfaces of the substrate in a position upstream to the tacking position. The wet rollers 30 deposit a void space preventing agent to the substrate so as to prevent void spaces from developing on the contacting surfaces between the substrate and each of the films.

    • In a thin film coating method, tack members are brought close to a surface of a substrate to temporarily tack the forward end portion of a web of thin film to the forward end of the substrate. Compression-bonding rollers are then brought into a tacking position where the forward end portion of the thin film is tacked from a standby position where the compression-bonding rollers do not touch the tack members to make compression-bonding contact with the forward end portion of the tacked thin film after the tack members are moved away from the surface of the substrate. The compression-bonding rollers are then rotated at the tacking position for the double purpose of conveying the substrate and adhering the thin film to the substrate. In this process, the forward end of the substrate is detected to produce a detection signal at a detection position before the substrate is conveyed to the tacking position, the conveyance of the substrate is stopped after the forward end of the substrate has been conveyed from the detection position to the tacking position, and the tack members are brought close to the conveyance passage of the substrate while the forward end of the substrate is being conveyed from the detection position to the tacking position to thereby tack the forward end of the thin film to the surface of the substrate after the forward end of the substrate is stopped at the tacking position.
