    • A thermal head (255) is disposed on a head block plate (230) supported in a cantilever arrangement by a base portion (103) so that it can move close to, and away from, a platen roller (210), and an operation member (260) which is manually operated so as to move the thermal head (255) close to, and away from, the platen roller (210) is turnably supported. The operation member (260) energizes a spring (270) which brings the thermal head (255) into contact with the platen roller (210) at same midpoint before it reaches the final position of its operation and then brings the thermal head into pressure contact with the platen roller before the final position of the operation. At the final position, the end portion (260e) of the operation member pushes into a reception portion (190a) integral with the base portion and supports a part of the head block plate (230) on its non-supporting side. Accordingly, stability of the operation and durability can be insured.
