    • Fixed sinkers (2) are arranged side by side at a front end portion of a needle bed (11). Each of the fixed sinkers (2) includes a body (21), which has a curved portion (24) in a middle part thereof in a longitudinal direction, and a head (22) protruding from the body (21) toward a needle-bed gap (G).     • [Problem to be solved] It is an object of the present invention is to provided a flatbed knitting machine provided with a set up equipment capable of preventing tension which is applied to knitting yarns from being increased, even when a knitting fabric is gathered in the knitting width direction while a set up part is captured and pulled down with set up needles. [Solution] Set up equipment 12 includes two combinations of a functioning plate part 16 which is moved in the knitting width direction and a transversal driving mechanism 17 on a set up bed 14 and further includes a set up bed 18 having a functioning plate part 19 which is not moved. The functioning plate parts 16 are moved in accordance with movement of a fabric by gathering on needle beds 13 while set up parts of the fabric are pulled down with set up needles 9 on the functioning plate parts 16, thereby preventing tension that is applied to knitting yarns from being increased. Furthermore, after a set up part for a part of the fabric, which is knitted in advance, is pulled down using the set up needles 9 on the functioning plate part 19 which is not moved, when the functioning plate parts 16, which moves, are moved to positions of remaining parts of the fabric and elevated for knitting the remaining parts, set up parts therefor can be pulled down, thereby eliminating the necessity of waste knitting.

    • To provide a flatbed knitting machine having a movable sinker that can produce a sufficient pressing force in the closed state with a simple structure.
      A movable sinker 50 includes a sinker 51, a sinker jack 52 and a wire spring 53. The wire spring 53 is supported in abutment with a front end portion 52a of the sinker jack 52. On condition that no load is applied to the yarn receiving portion 51d, whether in the opened state of the sinker or in the closed state, the wire spring 53 thrusts the front end portion 52a of the sinker jack 52 from the front side closer to the needle bed gap 2 and also thrusts the front end portion 52a from the back side as well in a sandwiching manner. Even when the sinker 51 increases in stroke in the closed state, the knitted fabric in the needle bed gap 2 can be pressed down by a pressing force nearly equal to that in the opened state.
