摘要： An ink cartridge is arranged for detachable mounting on a carriage (100) which is reciprocally movable in a recording apparatus and which has an electrode (106), an engagement portion (107) and an ink supply needle (102). The ink cartridge (1) comprises a container (2) storing ink therein and having an ink supply port (4) connectable to the ink supply needle (102), the ink supply port being located in a leading end side in an insertion direction of the container (2) into the carriage, the container further having first and second walls opposing each other, the first wall being substantially parallel with the insertion direction of the container (2) into the carriage (100). The ink cartridge also comprises memory means (7) having an electrode (7a) connectable to the electrode (106) of the carriage (100), the electrode of the memory means (7) being disposed on the first wall of the container (2). The ink cartridge further comprises a retaining member (5) disposed on the first wall of the container (2), and having an engagement portion (5a) which is located at a trailing end side, with respect to the insertion direction, relative to the electrode (7a) of the memory means (7), and which is engageable with the engagement portion (107) of the carriage (100). The engagement portion (5a) is movable relative to the first wall of the container (2), and the electrode (7a) of the memory means (7) is connected to the electrode (106) of the carriage (100) when the engagement portion (5a) of the retaining member (5) is engaged with the engagement portion (107) of the carriage (100).
