    • The invention relates to an artillery shell (1) with a shell casing (2), in which a first active unit (3) is arranged, and a breech ring (4), which is of a cup-shaped form and is closed on the rear side by a releasable cover part (6). To achieve the effect that the artillery shell (1) has the greatest possible terminal-ballistic explosive power in the target area in spite of the breech ring (4) of a cup-shaped form and with a cover part (6), the invention proposes that, as long as there is no need for an increased range of the artillery shell (1) to be obtained by means of a propulsive charge to reduce the base drag, an exchangeable, second active unit (7), which only produces its intended effect after or during the activation of the first active unit (3), should be arranged in the breech ring (4) instead of a propulsive charge.
