摘要： A cushioning conversion machine (20), which converts stock material (11) into cut sections (P) of dunnage, includes a cutting/aligning assembly (56). The cutting/aligning assembly (56) comprises a moving blade unit (73) which is mounted on the frame (36) in such a manner that it travels between a rest position and a cutting position whereat it cuts a dunnage strip (5) (which is emerging from a dunnage outlet opening (48)) into a cut section. The cutting/aligning assembly (56) also includes an automatic alignment device (80) which automatically aligns the cut section with the dunnage outlet opening (48) when the blade unit (73) is moved from the cutting position to the rest position. The automatic alignment device (80) is unattached to the moving blade member (72) but travels therewith during jamfree operation of the cushioning conversion machine.

摘要： Cushioning conversion machines and methods are provided for converting plural layers (56, 57, 58) of a sheet-like stock material into a dunnage product. The plural layers (56, 57, 58) of the stock material are shaped into a three-dimensional strip of dunnage and the overlapped edge portions of a first layer (56) of the stock material are connected together separate from a central portion of the first layer (56). The overlapped edge portions of the first layer (56) may be generally coplanar with its adjacent unoverlapped portions. The overlapped edge portions of the first layer (56) may be connected together separate from other layers of the sheet-like stock material. Alternatively, the lateral edges of the other layers of the sheet-like stock material may be connected to each other and also the lateral edges of the first layer, but not to the respective central portions of the layers.

摘要： A cushioning conversion machine (20) including a conversion assembly (30) which converts a continuous sheet of multi-ply stock material (22) into a three dimensional cushioning product (32) and a stock supply assembly (550) which supplies the multi-ply stock material (22) to the conversion assembly (30). The conversion assembly (30) includes a forming assembly (52) which inwardly turns lateral portions of the stock material (22) as the stock material (22) travels therethrough in a downstream direction. The stock supply assembly (550) includes a separating device (574) and/or constant-entry device (580) designed to minimize tearing due to excessive tension in the lateral regions of the stock material (22). Additionally or alternatively, the forming assembly (52) includes a shaping member (590) having protrusions in its turning perimeter and/or holding surface to modify the shape of the cushioning product. Another embodiment of stock supply assembly (350) includes a stock-dispensing device (370) which dispenses the multi-ply stock material (22) from a continuous sheet thereof and a transversely extending member which is positioned to engage at least one of the plies of the dispensed multi-ply stock material (22). The transversely extending member has end portions which are inwardly tapered relative to the central portions of the member and towards the adjacent ends of the member. The inwardly tapered lateral end portions being positioned to engage the ends of the lateral portions of the at least one ply of the stock material (22).

摘要： A pad production (supply) and packaging system and method for automatically producing dunnage pads and inserting one or more of the produced dunnage pads into a container for packaging of an article in the container. The invention is characterized by a pad discharge assembly (14) and/or pad insertion assembly to provide an automatic pad production and packaging system and method, that afford advantages over existing pad production and packaging arrangements. The discharge assembly, which provides for controlled discharge of dunnage pads produced by a pad producing machine, includes a gating device for affecting passage of the pad out of the holding zone in a direction transverse to the pad length. A controller (85) causes the discharge assembly to release a pad held in the holding zone for passage onto a working surface and preferably a conveyor in synchronous relation to movement of the conveyor for controlled deposition of pads onto the conveyor. The conveyor (13) conveys the pad into a pad insertion zone in a first direction, and a pusher assembly is operative to push the pad from the pad insertion zone in a direction transverse to the first direction. The pusher assembly includes a plunger for engaging and pushing a pad located at the pad insertion zone; and the pad insertion zone includes an opening over which a pad is conveyed by the conveyor, and the plunger is operable to push the pad through the opening for insertion into a container. A sensor curtain is disposed near the holding zone and/or pad insertion zone to detect the insertion of a foreign object and provide an output for disabling a severing operation. One or more pad insertion assemblies can be swivelly mounted to a stand to permit relative rotatable movement therebetween from an operating position to a loading/servicing position and vice versa.
