    • The invention relates to an internal combustion engine (1), especially for an automobile, said engine being fitted with an injection valve (8) enabling direct injection of fuel into a combustion chamber (4) in a first operating mode during a first compression phase or in a second operating mode during an intake phase. A control device (16) is provided for shifting between both operating modes and for differentiated control and/or regulation of operating parameters influencing the torque delivered by the internal combustion engine (1) depending on a required torque (mi). Said control device (16) makes it possible to determine the fuel mass to be injected in the first operating mode depending on the operating parameters determining injections for the second operating mode of the internal combustion engine (1).
