    • The invention relates to a fuel-injection device comprising a high-pressure fuel pump (10) for each cylinder of the internal combustion engine and a fuel-injection valve (12) that is connected to each cylinder. A pump plunger (18) of the high-pressure fuel pump (10) delimits a pump working chamber (22), which is connected to a pressure chamber (40) of the fuel injection valve (12), said valve having an injection valve member (28), which controls injection orifices (32) and which can be displaced in an opening direction (29) in opposition to a closing force by the prevailing pressure in the pressure chamber (40). A first control valve (68) controls a connection (66) from the pump working chamber (22) to a relief chamber (24) and a second control valve (70) controls a connection (64) from a control pressure chamber (52) that is linked to the pump working chamber (22) and is delimited by a control plunger (50) to a relief chamber (24). The control plunger (50) controls a flow cross-section of the connection (64) from the control pressure chamber (52) to the relief chamber (24) in accordance with the travel of the control plunger (50), in such a way that a greater flow cross-section is released when the injection valve member (28) is in a closed position than when said injection valve member (28) is in an open position.
