    • The invention relates to an electrochemical gas sensor and to a method for determining the concentration of gas components in a gaseous mixture, in particular the concentration of NOx in exhaust gases from internal combustion engines. The gas sensor comprises a first gas measuring chamber (13) which comes into contact with the gas to be measured and two additional gas measuring chambers (15) and (17) which are connected to the first gas measuring chamber (13) via diffusion barriers (25) and (27). The first gas measuring chamber (13) contains a first pump cell, which together with pump electrodes (28, 29) that are located on a fixed electrolyte induce the transport of oxygen into or out of the gas measuring chamber (13). The gas measuring chambers (15, 17) contain additional pump cells, whereby the gas measuring chamber (15) is used to measure the oxygen concentration in the mixture and the gas measuring chamber (17) is used to measure the sum of the oxygen concentration and the concentration of gas components in the gaseous mixture. The pump current which is measured between two pump electrodes (31, 33, 35), located on a fixed electrolyte is used by the two amperometric measuring cells as a measurement variable and by calculating the difference between both pump currents, a measuring signal is obtained which is proportional to the concentration of the gas components to be determined.
