    • The invention relates to a portable device for inputting control signals to a peripheral unit. The device includes a holding member designed to be attached to a hand of a user of the device, so as to retain the device in a predetermined manner on the hand. The device contains at least one input member, which covers a substantial portion of a surface (110') of the device that faces away from the user's hand when the device is attached to the hand. Thereby, notwithstanding any variations between different users in repsect of the size and shape of their hands, each user may still conveniently reach and manipulate the input member(s). In order to provide a plurality of functions via each input member, the member includes an actuating surface (182) of which multidimensional movements (A/B, C/D; E) may be registered in response to an external force produced by the user. The input member also includes at least one resilient member (269), which is arranged to return the actuating surface (182) to a neutral position after that this force has ceased to influence the surface (182). Thus, the proposed device provides a flexible solution which allows users to effortlessly generate and enter many different types of commands and instructions to the peripheral unit.

    • The present invention relates to a flexible and ergonomically well adapted solution for generating and feeding position related commands into a digital processor (400). A primary pointing device (100) controls the position of a cursor (411) on a digital screen (410) by means of primary position commands (C1). The primary position commands (C1) are generated by a relative movement (D11; D12) between the primary pointing device (100) and a substantially flat external surface, such as a tabletop or a mouse pad. The primary pointing device (100) is adapted to dock with a secondary pointing device (200), which may also control the position of the cursor (411) on the digital screen (410). Bearing registering user input controls (230a, 230b; 232) in the secondary pointing device (200) generate secondary position commands (C2), which are fed to the digital processor (400) for causing the cursor (411) to move on the digital screen (410). Furthermore, the primary pointing device (100) is adapted to dock with the secondary pointing device (200). This allows the devices (100; 200) to be used in a multitude of combinations, for instance, separated and as exclusive alternative to each other, separated however both influencing the cursor (411) or physically combined, with one or both of the devices controlling the cursor (411).
