    • In an image sensing and processing apparatus for a coloured image, light from a photoresponsive means is sequentially filtered (14) before reaching photoresponsive means to establish in the electrical output signal red, green, blue, yellow, cyan and magenta colour components. Signal processing means (38-46) provide an enhanced red colour component as a function of the red and cyan colour components of the electrical output signal. Similarly an enhanced green colour component is obtained as a function of the green and magenta colour components of the electrical output signal, and an enhanced blue colour component as a function of the blue and yellow components of the electrical output signal. Preferably, each complementary colour is obtained and stored immediately before the primary colour with which it is to be combined, so that only one of the complementary colours is stored at a time. Preferably, the complementary colour image-representing signals are obtained at a lower resolution than the primary colour signals, thereby reducing memory requirements still further.

    • An apparatus and method are provided for encoding and decoding video signals on a conventional magnetic recording medium in a manner whereby the decoded video signal includes an improved chrominance character­istic. The improved chrominance characteristic is provided by encoding the conventional luminance and chrominance information signals on a first track of the information recording medium for the odd alternate fields and a modified luminance information signal and a select separate color component signal on a second track of the information recording medium. The signal recorded on the first track of the recording medium may be decoded in a conventional manner to provide video signals of limited chrominance video bandwidth or, alternatively, both tracks of the recording medium may be decoded in the manner of this invention to provide an improved chrominance characteristic video signal.

    • An electronic imaging camera is provided with a substantially expanded dyanmic exposure range by implementing two succeeding exposure intervals under conditions where the exposure defining parameters are substantially different and thereafter selectively choosing between the electronic information signals sensed during the two succeeding exposure intervals to provide an output signal from which a visible image of the subject may be reconstructed thereafter.
      The camera comprises an image sensing array (14) comprising a predetermined number of discrete image sensing areas all of which are responsible to incident illumination from a subject to provide an electronic information signal corresponding to the intensity of the illumination incident thereto; an image storing array (16) for storing the electronic information signal; and control means. The control means controls first and second, different, select sets of exposure defining parameters to implement first and second exposure intervals during which the image sensing array (14) is exposed to incident illumination, and transfers the electronic information signal derived during each exposure interval from the image sensing array (14) to the storing array (16). Means (28,30,36) selectively combines the electronic information signal derived during the first and second exposure intervals to provide an output electronic information signal comprising a first selected component of the electronic information signal derived during the first exposure interval and second selected component of the electronic information signal derived during the second exposure from which a visible image of the subject may be constructed.
