摘要： An improved composite includes an improved polymer, specifically an improved poly(phenylene sulfide). The improved polymer is produced by an improved method including a polymerization phase, a recovery phase, a washing phase, and an optional air-curing phase. In the polymerization phase a low temperature cycle and a high temperature cycle are used. In a preferred recovery phase, solidified polymer is quenched with N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone. In the washing phase, the recovered solidified polymer is washed with a hot acidic solution and then hot water. In a preferred embodiment, the method produces substantially linear poly(phenylene sulfide) having a melt flow within the range of about 50 to about 200 grams per 10 minutes and an ash content of not greater than about 0.1 weight percent and a melt crystallization temperature of not less than about 347°F (175°C).

摘要： A process to form a fiber-reinforced composite having a continuous thermoplastic matrix of poly(arylene sulfide ketone) resins is provided. The composite is useful to form shaped articles with high temperature resistance. The composite can be prepared by consolidating under heating a multi-layer stack of resin sheets and fiber reinforcement sheets. The poly(arylene sulfide ketone) resins can be melt-stabilized through treatment with a water-soluble salt of an alkaline earth metal. The composite has excellent thermal properties such as heat distortion temperature.

摘要： A method is provided for selectively extracting the lower molecular weight fraction of a poly(arylene sulfide) polymer by contacting the polymer with a polar organic compound and a promoter compound to form a less dense polymer-lean liquid phase and a more dense polymer-rich liquid phase, separating the polymer-lean liquid phase from the polymer-rich liquid phase, and recovering the polymer from the polymer-rich phase. Alternatively, either of the phases can be isolated and polar organic compound and optionally promoter can be added to form two new phases, followed by isolation of the new polymer-rich phase. This process can be repeated as often as desired or practicable in order to recover polymer having a desired molecular weight and/or molecular weight distribution.
