    • Described herein are a system and a method for the treatment of metal bars, in particular bars for the reinforcement of concrete, provided in which is at least one operating unit (1), such as, for example, a bending unit or a cutting unit. A device for picking up, separating, and transferring the bars automatically feeds a plurality of bars to the operating unit (1) picking them up in any desired predetermined number from a bundle of bars deposited in a magazine (M) and separating them from the remaining bars of the bundle. The bars are picked up, separated from the bundle, and transferred to the operating unit by displacing them substantially only in a direction (X) transverse with respect to their longitudinal direction.

    • A unit for automatically loading a predetermined number of metal rods from a storage station (8), wherein the rods are arranged in a bundle (B), to a downstream station.
      Such unit comprising means (4,12) for picking up a predetermined number of bars or portions of bars from the bundle (B) which is located at the storage station (8) and for transferring them, one by one, to conveyor means (9a,9b) which cause them to advance along their longitudinal direction towards said downstream station.

    • A plant for bending metal bars, in particular bars for reinforcing concrete, comprising:
      - at least one bending unit (2, 4) defining a bending plane and a space for receiving a number of bars (A, B, C) to be bent, arranged parallel to one another and on top of one another in a plane orthogonal to the bending plane; and
      - means for aligning the bars with one another, comprising a thrust member (8) mobile in the longitudinal direction of the bars received in said receiving space and designed to act on first ends of said bars. The aforesaid means comprise a stop element (12) provided for acting on second ends of said bars opposite to said first ends, so as to cause the bars to slide on one another as a result of the action of said thrust member, until said bars find themselves substantially aligned with one another.
