    • The application relates to intra-LTE handover where a serving eNB triggers handover based on measurement results received from the UE. In conventional approaches, the UE indicates only the physical cell identity PCI and through the reported measurements the carrier frequency of the measured cells. The serving eNB selects a target cell and prepares the target cell to receive a connection with the UE, suitably using an X2 or S1 handover preparation procedure. The serving eNB then commands the UE to connect to the target cell through a RRC connection reconfiguration procedure. However, in case two different candidate target cells share a PCI, the target cell is ambiguous. Therefore, the conventional RRC connection reconfiguration procedure might lead to a handover failure if the other, non-prepared, cell is selected. Therefore, the present application proposes that, rather than waiting for a handover failure, the serving eNB prepares all potential candidate cells (108A & 102A) to which the UE might be handed over and forces the UE (110C) to make an RRC connection re-establishment procedure to a given PCI even without handover failure (206). The UE will likely succeed to access the selected target cell even if its Cell Global Identity is ambiguous and not known by the source eNB. Hence, the application proposes a new message which may be referred to as RRC:ConnectionReestablishmentCommand message.
