    • A process for producing molten stainless steel by continuously subjecting Cr materials such as Cr ores or Cr pellets to melt reduction and decarbonization in one vessel at high treating speeds, which comprises, in the melt reduction, blow­ing an inert gas or the like through a bottom-blown tuyere to form projections on the molten metal surface and blowing an inert gas or the like against the projections through a side-blown tuyere to diffuse the molten metal into a Cr material-­floating zone in the slag for accelerating the reduction of the Cr material with C contained in the molten metal and, on the other hand, blowing O₂ for decarbonization into the molten metal through a top-blown lance and O₂ for secondary com­bustion into the slag to form a secondary combustion zone mainly in the slag, and vigorously stirring the slag by the side-­blown gas to give a heat produced by the secondary combustion to the Cr ores with high efficiency while keeping a second combustion ratio at 0.3 or more for assuring high secondary combustion and, after the melt reduction, discharging the slag and top-blowing O₂ for decarbonization diluted with an inert gas and blowing an inert gas through the bottom-blown tuyere to vigorously stir the molten metal.
      SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
      This invention relates to a method of producing stainless molten steel by a smelting reduction treatment - decarburization treatment of Cr raw materials such as Cr ores, Cr ore pellets and so on consecutively and at high treating speed in one container. In the smelting reduction, an inert gas is blown from bottom tuy­eres to form an upheaving part of the molten metal on its surface and the inert gas is blown to this upheaving part. The molten metal is thereby caused to disperse into a region of the slag where the Cr materials float, so that the reduction of Cr is accelerated by C. On the other hand, decarburizing O₂ is blown into the molten metal from a top lance, while O₂ for a post com­bustion is blown into the slag, so that a post combustion region is formed mainly in the slag, and the slag is forcibly agitated by blowing the gas from the side tuyere, so that a heat generated by the post combustion is caused to transfer to Cr ores at high heat transfer efficiency, and a high post combustion is secured, as maintaining the post combustion ratio to be more than 0.3. After having completed the smelting reduction, the slag is dis­charged. The molten metal is agitated complusively by blowing the decarburizing O₂ diluted with the inert gas from the top lance, and blowing the inert gas from the bottom tuyeres.

    • A process for decarburizing high-Cr molten pig iron under atmospheric pressure in a short time with minimized Cr loss due to oxidation is disclosed. A fundamental feature of the process comprises top-blowing decarburizing O₂ diluted with an inert gas through a top-blowing lance against high-Cr molten pig iron in a vessel and at the same time blowing an inert gas through a bottom-blowing tuyere to vigorously stir the molten pig iron. Another feature of the process comprises controlling a slag amount in the above-described decarburizing blowing to thereby depress Cr loss due to oxidation. A fur­ther feature comprises conducting a predetermined denitrification after the blowing to thereby economically produce low-­nitrogen molten iron with depressed Cr loss due to oxidation.
      ABSTRACT
      The present invention relates to a method which may decarbu­rize high Cr molten metal for a short period of time under an atmospheric pressure, while checking loss of Cr by its oxidation. A basic feature of the invention is to blow from the furnace top lance a decarburizing O₂ diluted by an inert gas into the high Cr molten metal supported in a container as well as blow the inert gas from bottom tuyeres so as to forcibly agitate the molten metal. Another feature of the invention is to control a slag amount during the above decarburizion blowing so as to check the Cr oxidation loss. A further object of the invention is to carry out a denitrification in the above decarburization, thereby to produce low N molten metal while checking the loss by Cr oxidat­ion.
