    • The present invention offers a thermal storage agent, used for air-conditioning systems of buildings as an example, exhibiting excellent thermal storage, thermal conduction and safety, and a manufacturing method thereof. A thermal storage agent (2) in accordance with the present invention contains particulate oily gel bodies (1) prepared by letting an oil absorbent resin absorb, and thus swell with, a thermal storage oil-soluble substance, wherein the oily gel bodies have a unitary volume of not less than 0.01 cm and are in contact with one another without losing the individual surfaces thereof. The empty spaces formed between the particulate oily gel bodies (1) buffer a change in volume of the oil-soluble substance when the oil-soluble substance freezes and melts, further restrain leakage of the oil-soluble substance, and dramatically reduce the chances of the combustion and spread of fire, and thus improve the safety. Besides, with the oil-soluble substance, since the above unitary volume restraints supercooling, and the transformation from liquid phase to solid phase is completed in a shorter period of time, the thermal storage agent (2) is superior in thermal storage efficiency. A manufacturing method in accordance with the present invention can easily produce the excellent thermal storage agent (2) by letting the oil absorbent resin that is prepared by suspension polymerization in a solution containing the oil-soluble substance absorb, and thus swell with, the oil-soluble substance.
