    • The invention relates to an EMS training device (10) comprising an EMS stimulus generating unit (3) which forms a plurality of EMS stimuli from a current obtained from a current source, said plurality of EMS stimuli following a specified excitation pattern and being distributed over time and over electrodes. The EMS stimuli consist of current pulses and/or an alternating current with specified values, such as amplitude and frequency. The training device comprises EMS electrodes (1), which can be attached to a living body in pairs in particular, for applying EMS stimuli to the body, and the training device also comprises line branches (4). Each line branch (4) connects one of the EMS electrodes (1) to the EMS stimulus generating unit (3) in an electrically conductive manner in order to apply the EMS stimuli to the corresponding EMS electrodes (1) such that a current with a specified amplitude and frequency pattern is conducted through the body, in particular in a number of current circuits, each of which comprises two of the line branches (4) and each of which has two EMS electrodes (1) that are paired together. In order to protect the EMS electrodes (1) and/or other susceptible elements (5) of at least one of the line branches (4) from corrosion, the EMS training device (10) has at least one measuring device (12) for measuring a resistance or a variable, which corresponds to the resistance, in the line branch (4) as an actual value, at least one comparison device (13) for comparing the actual value in the line branch (4) with a stored or ascertained target value, and at least one compensation device (14; 6; 15) for compensating for a deviation of the actual value from the target value in the line branch (4). The invention also relates to a corresponding method.
