    • An electrical connector (52) is provided of the wire-trap type. The connector includes a housing (64, 66) defining an interior cavity (96) with a passage (82, 100) through the cavity for receiving an in-line conductor (54). A pair of openings (102) are provided in the housing for receiving the stripped ends (58) of a pair of electrical wires (56). A generally U-shaped terminal (62) is disposed in the cavity of the housing and includes a pair of leg portions (68) joined by a bight portion (70). The leg portions have wire-trapping distal ends (62a) in registry with the openings for deflectingly engaging and trapping the stripped ends of the electrical wires inserted into the openings. The bight portion has a terminating section (72) in registry with the passage for termination to the in-line conductor.

    • A connector assembly includes a terminated wire (16), a crimp-type terminal (14) and a two-piece housing assembly of interfitting carrier and cover members (18, 20). The terminal (14) is crimped to the wire (16) in a conventional fashion, presenting a portion (34) (see FIG. 3) of reduced cross section at the crimp engagement with the wire (16') proper. The terminated wire is loaded into channels (50) formed in the carrier member (18). The carrier member includes protrusions (74) received in the reduced cross section of the crimp portion (34). After mounting of the terminals (14), the carrier is telescopically inserted in the sleeve-like cover member (20). An excessive crimp height (HT) (see FIG. 4) prevents the complete reception of the terminal within the carrier channel (50), thereby preventing telescopic insertion of the carrier (18) within the cover member (20). Thus, an excessive crimp height (HT) in the crimp portion (34) of the terminal is visually indicated during connector assembly. In a similar fashion, a rotational misalignment of the terminal (14) with respect to the carrier (18) will also prevent insertion of the carrier (18) within the housing (20). Improved terminal retention against pull-out and push-out forces is provided by the projection (74), upon its insertion in the reduced cross sectional crimp portion (34) of the terminal.

    • A cable clamping device (12) is provided for use with an electrical connector (10) for electrically terminating conductors of a multi-conductor cable (80). The cable includes a shielding foil (86) running the length of the cable. The cable clamping device includes at least a pair of clamp members (40, 42, 88) hingedly attached and defining mating faces (40a, 42a, 94) profiled to provide a cable passage therebetween. Complementary interengaging latches (56, 60a, 60b, 92) are provided on the clamp members to hold the clamp members together sandwiching the cable in the passage. A foil shield bus terminal (100) is mounted on one of the clamp members (40, 42, 88) and includes puncturing projections (106) for penetrating the shielding foil. Bias means (108, 100, 134) on the other clamp members biases the shielding foil into penetrating engagement with the puncturing projections. Separate conductive member (36) couples the foil shield bus terminal to the ground conductor of the cable.
