摘要： An object of the present invention is to provide a friction stir welding apparatus and a friction stir welding method capable of preventing formation of recesses on both sides of a welding trace on the front surface side of a weld joint regardless of the presence or absence of a gap between workpieces. A friction stir welding apparatus (1) according to the present invention includes: a rotating shaft (2), on which a thread (21) for friction stirring is formed; and a drive unit (3) rotatably supporting the rotating shaft (2). A rotating shoulder (5) configured to rotate together with the rotating shaft (2) to generate frictional heat between the rotating shoulder (5) and back surfaces of workpieces W is fixed to a distal end of the rotating shaft (2). The rotating shoulder (5) is pushed against the back surfaces of the workpieces W by a pushing mechanism (6). A stationary shoulder (4) penetrated by the rotating shaft (2) and configured to hold the workpieces W in a sandwiching manner together with the rotating shoulder (5) is non-rotatably mounted to the drive unit (3) or a member (16) connected to the drive unit (3).

The sticking pad 46 has a flat base member 51 facing an object, an annular sealing member 52 protruding from one of major surfaces of the base member 51 so as to surround a central area of the surface of the base member 51, a slippery member 53 attached to the end surface of the annular sealing member 52 facing the object, and one or some deformation-suppressing protrusions 56 protruding from the surface facing the object of the base member 51. The slippery member 53 is made of a material that can make the slippery member 53 contact the object with a friction coefficient lower than that with which the sealing member 52 can be in contact with the same object.

摘要： A dissimilar material joint (10), which is applied to a structure support member (5) supporting a structure (4) fabricated from a metal dissimilar to a metal of a hull (2), includes: a first joint member (11) joined to a hull-side member (6); and a second joint member (12) fillet-welded to a structure-side member (7) and friction stir welded to the first joint member (11). A first joint surface (14) of the first joint member (11) and a second joint surface (15) of the second joint member (12) are formed as substantially flat surfaces and are in surface contact with each other. The two joint members (11, 12) are joined together at a plurality of friction stir welds (21), the friction stir welds (21) being arranged in a width direction and extending in a longitudinal direction. A pair of fillet welds (23) is formed in side surfaces (20) of the structure-side member (7), the fillet welds (23) reaching a welding surface (16) opposite to the second joint surface (15). Each fillet weld (23) is disposed such that each fillet weld (23) overlaps at least one of the friction stir welds (21) when seen in a normal direction to the second joint surface (15).
