    • Provided is a method that can achieve energy saving and CO 2 emission reduction when producing reduced iron from iron oxide. The method comprises: an iron oxide charging step of charging iron oxide into a reducing furnace; a reducing gas blowing step of blowing a reducing gas into the reducing furnace; a reduction step of reducing the iron oxide by the reducing gas in the reducing furnace; a methane synthesis step of synthesizing a gas composed mainly of methane from hydrogen gas and part of a furnace top gas discharged from a furnace top of the reducing furnace; and a gas reforming step of heating the methane and a remainder of the furnace top gas as a raw material gas and reforming the raw material gas into the reducing gas, wherein the steps are mutually connected in a circulation system, and operation is continued while supplementing carbon running short during the operation in one or more steps selected from the reducing gas blowing step, the reduction step, the methane synthesis step, and the gas reforming step or in one or more connecting parts between two or more steps selected from the reducing gas blowing step, the reduction step, the methane synthesis step, and the gas reforming step.

    • Provided is an operating method for a reducing furnace with which iron oxide contained in a raw material can be reduced more efficiently than conventional methods. The operating method for a reducing furnace includes charging a raw material containing iron oxide into a reducing furnace while introducing a reducing gas that accompanies an endothermic reaction during reduction into the reducing furnace, and reducing the iron oxide to obtain reduced iron, where the raw material contains a first agglomerate with a particle size in a first particle size range and a second agglomerate with a particle size in a second particle size range whose lower limit is equal to or more than an upper limit of the first particle size range, and the raw material is preheated before being charged into the reducing furnace or heated inside the reducing furnace, and the reduced iron discharged from the reducing furnace is sieved and classified into reduced iron having a particle size range of fine particle and reduced iron having a particle size in a particle size range of coarse particle, and the reduced iron having a particle size range of fine particle is recovered.
