    • The invention concerns a system and a method for the automated identification of haematophagous Diptera that are vectors of infectious diseases. The system according to the invention comprises: - a database containing reference image data of wings of a plurality of species of haematophagous Diptera that are vectors of infectious diseases, said image data being obtained from optical interference patterns of said wings; a portable device comprising means for acquiring images of a wing removed from a captured Diptera specimen; - a support for holding the wing removed from the captured Diptera specimen; - means for transmitting image data of the removed wing to the database; and - means for comparing the image data of the removed wing with the reference image data of the database and for identifying the captured Diptera with a view to determining if said Diptera is a haematophagous Diptera that is a vector of infectious diseases. The invention applies to the identification of haematophagous Diptera that are vectors of infectious diseases.
