    • A brake drum encapulsator (18) includes a wire frame (33) in a generally cylindrical shape with a cover (34) surrounding the frame (33) and having a closed end (44) and an open end. The brake drum assembly is received in the open end of the cover (34) which is then closed about the brake drum and evacuated. The cover (34) is made of a material which is light weight, flexible, transparent and gas impermeable to give the operator full visibility to the interior. The cover (34) has a pair of gloves (45, 46) integrally formed in it to permit the operator to have access to the interior. A hand-operated air gun (49, 50) for cleaning the brake drums is also attached to the closed end (44) of the cover (34), which preferably has a frustoconical portion which allows the operator to move his hands and the air gun back and forth as well as laterally within the encapsulator for servicing the brake drum.

    • Apparatus (33) for mounting a pad (30) to a rotary floor machine (10) includes an internally threaded drive collar (35) mounted in coaxial relation with a drive shaft, the teeth of the thread (40) on the collar having a sawtooth profile with an inclined lead-in surface (44) and a holding surface (45). A retainer member (35) in the form of a flanged collar has a cylindrical insert (49) with a plural­ity of tabs (52) capable of flexing inwardly, the flex tabs being spaced about the insert and having external thread segments (56), the teeth of which also have a sawtooth profile, for matching engagement with the internal threads of the drive collar. The retainer insert is assembled by pushing it into the drive collar. The lead-in surfaces (44,57) of the matching threads (40,56) cam the flex tabs (52) inwardly during assembly so that the sawtooth threads ride over one another. The radial holding surfaces engage to provide substantial holding force for the center (31) of the pad (30) which is clamped between the flanges of the drive collar and the retainer member.
