    • A method (900) of making an article of manufacture is provided and includes the steps of (910) spraying a first coating onto a substrate, and (920) depositing a second coating on the first coating by 3-D printing a material disposed in a pattern. The pattern includes ridges (16) disposed at a base surface (20) of a turbine part. Each ridge (16) defined by first (30) and second (32) sidewalls, each sidewall (30,32) having a first (31) and second (33) end. The ends (30,33) extend from the base surface (20), the sidewalls (30,32) slope toward each other until meeting at second ends (33) of respective first (30) and second (32) sidewalls defining a centerline (22) and a top portion (34) of the ridge (16). The sidewalls (30,32) are inclined with substantially equal but opposite slopes with respect to the base surface (20). The ridges (16) correspond to a back portion (11) of a turbine bucket and are oriented at a first angle (48) with respect to an axis of rotation of the bucket.
