    • The invention relates to a method for forming groups (2) from flat articles (11 to 14), conveyed in a plurality of conveying flows (1.1 to 1.4), by combining the conveying flows (1.1 to 1.4) to a group flow in which a plurality of imbricated flows with identical distances of the overlaps are superimposed and in which the leading edge zones of the articles (11 to 14) of the superimposed imbricated flows are aligned with one another in the direction of conveyance. Groups (2) of articles (11 to 14) are separated from the top end of the group flow by jamming and accelerating the inter-aligned leading edge zones. The conveying flows (1.1 to 1.4) are superimposed in at least one combination site while the articles (11 to 14) in all combining and superimposed flows are interaligned in parallel and at an angle to the direction of conveyance, have the same distances to one another and are transported at the same speed. Projections of the combining and superimposed flows (1.1 to 1.4) extend in parallel or coincide in a plane parallel to the parallel orientation of the articles (11 to 14). The projections of the combining flows (1.1 to 1.4) converge at an acute angle to a plane transverse to the parallel alignment of the articles (11 to 14). The combining flows (1.1 to 1.4) are synchronized in such a manner that, when the flows are superimposed, leading edge zones of the articles (11 to 14) are substantially aligned with one another.

    • At least one positioning device (5) and at least one orienting device (6) are provided in order to manage a device for intermediately storing flat objects, especially printing products, that are intermediately stored in rolls, for example. The device comprises a plurality of roll stations (1), a plurality of mobile roll stands (2) and a plurality of storage areas (2.1, 2.2) for roll stands. The storage areas (2.1, 2.2) are arranged on a plurality of parallel, primary transport paths (3). The primary transport paths cross at least one secondary transport path (4.1, 4.2). The entries of the roll stations (1) are arranged along a secondary transport path (4) and aligned with primary transport paths (3). In order to remove the roll stands (2) by drawing and to position the same by pushing, the positioning device (5) can be actively displaced in storage areas (2.1, 2.2) and roll stations (1) along primary transport paths (3). The orienting device (6) serves to receive loaded or empty positioning devices (5), to reorientate them for successive transport measures on primary transport paths (3), for displacing them along secondary transport paths (4.1, 4.2) and, optionally, for raising or lowering them to additional levels having additional storage areas (2.1, 2.2) as well as primary and secondary transport paths (3, 4). The method and device can also be used, in an analogous manner, for managing devices for intermediately storing rolls of flat objects which, without roll stands, are handled on pallets, for example, or for managing other storage units of flat objects which are handled using other suitable supporting elements.
