Loads of up to 300 pounds are handled merely by increasing fluid pressure and with no structural changes. An article sensor (33) provides a significant mechanical advantage for operation of the control valve (CV) in each zone and, in conjunction with a normally open control valve (CV), provides an accumulator for handling such wide range of article weights. A brake (25,26) is pivoted directly on a tension roller pivot (15) to brake an article (L) when the tension roller (T) is dropped out.

    • A control and actuating circuit for a fluid controlled and actuated belt-driven, live-roller (R), multi-zone accumulator conveyor (10) in which the drive for each conveyor zone is engaged by means of a fluid operated actuator (19). Each accumulator zone has an article sensor (30) responsive to an article (L) on the conveyor (10) within the respective zone, which sensor (30) comprises a normally-open fluid sensor valve (CV). The respective actuators (19) in each zone each comprise a shuttle valve having two input ports (A, B) and an output port operationally connected to an actuating piston (20). One of the input ports (B) of the respective shuttle valve is connected to the output of the normally-open sensor valve (CV) of the respective zone. The other input port (A) of the shuttle valve is connected to the output of the normally-open sensor valve (CV) of the next downstream zone.
