摘要： The invention relates to a method for operating a reciprocating internal combustion engine in an engine braking mode. In said method, in a working cycle of the engine braking mode, at least one outlet valve of at least one cylinder is closed (1S1, 1S1", 1S1'") for a first time, then opened (1O1, 1O1", 1O1"') for a first time and subsequently closed (2S1, 2S1', 2S1", 2S1'") for a second time and then opened (2O1, 2O1", 2O1'") for a second time in order to thereby discharge compressed gas contained in the cylinder from said cylinder by means of a cylinder piston. The outlet valve is held open after the first opening operation (1O1, 1O1", 1O1") and prior to the second closing operation (2S1, 2S1', 2S1", 2S1'") long enough for the cylinder to be filled with gas that flows out of at least one second cylinder of the reciprocating internal combustion engine via at least one outlet channel.
