    • A holding connector system is provided for connecting a micro device feeder (22) to an assembly line table (12) having a plurality of alignment pins (11,13). A connector body (33) having a slot provided therein engages one of the plurality of alignment pins (11,13) and a table recess in the connector body (33) holds it to the assembly line table (12). A threaded knob (26) secures the connector body (33) to the assembly line table (12). The micro device feeder (22) is provided with an alignment plate (28), which has fingers engaging the alignment pins (11,13) to cause the micro device feeder (22) to be properly aligned with the assembly line table (12). A clamping plate (30) on the micro device feeder (22) engages a portion of the connector body (33), which holds down the micro device feeder (22).

    • A micro device using assembly system (30) for feeding, programming, and placing micro devices on circuit boards includes a robotic handing system capable of picking up and placing the micro devices on the circuit boards on a conveyor system. A control system controls the conveyor system and the robotic handling system (18). An input feeder (14) provides the micro devices and a programming system (50) is capable of programming a plurality of micro devices in sockets (54) which are in line parallel with the input feeder (14). The input feeder (14) responds to communication with the control system to feed the unprogrammed micro devices while the programming system (50) programs the micro devices and communicates to the control system. The robotic handling system (18) responds to communication of the programming system with the control system to pickup and places the programmed micro devices on the circuit boards at high speed.

    • A pick and place system is provided which connectable to an air and an electrical power source. The system has a pick and place unit [106] including an actuator [116] responsive to the connection to the air power source to move to a pick-up position. The actuator [116] moves a coupler [216], which in turn moves a probe [222] to compliantly move to a pick-up position. The probe [222] is responsive to a connection to the air power source to pick up the micro device. A pneumatic valve [111] connected to the actuator [116] is capable of electrical actuation to connect the air power source to the actuator [116] and a supply valve [121] connected to the probe [222] is capable of electrical actuation to remove the power source from the probe [222]. Deactivation of the pneumatic valve [111] moves the actuator [116] and probe [222] to a raised position. A system control [104], connectable to the electrical power source, is connected to the pneumatic and supply valves [111,121] for selectively, electrically actuating the pneumatic and supply valves [111,121].
