摘要： A pluggable active optical module (AOM) having an electrical connector at a first end and one or more optical adapters at a second end is disclosed. The AOM includes a storage device interface at the second end, and a programmable processor coupled to the storage device interface and one or more first contacts of the electrical connector. The programmable processor is configured to access a storage device in one or more optical fibers through the storage device interface and provide physical layer management (PLM) information obtained therefrom to a host device connected to the electrical connector. The AOM also includes a switch coupled between a second contact of the electrical connector and ground, the switch coupled to the programmable processor such that programmable processor can control the switch to selectively connect a second contact of the electrical connector to ground.

摘要： Communication media for providing indication of signal power to a network entity include communication paths extending from a first end to a second end; and a connector assembly terminating the first end of the communication paths, the connector assembly including a physical layer management (PLM) interface that is isolated from signals on the communication paths. The connector assembly includes a signal sensor that senses signal power propagating through the connector assembly to/from the communication paths; a programmable processor coupled to the signal sensor and the PLM interface; and data storage devices that include first instructions that cause the programmable processor to receive a signal from the signal sensor corresponding to the signal power detected by the signal sensor, and to send an indication of the signal power propagating through the connector assembly, the programmable processor sending the indication over the PLM interface to a network entity.

摘要： Systems for a PLM configured active optical module (AOM) with native and non-native-network element support are provided. A system includes a non-native network element having a first port with a first inventory interface; a first pluggable AOM installed in the first port and coupled to the first inventory interface, where in response to a request to read a standard table entry the first pluggable AOM provides PLM information to the non-native network element in a format complying with a MSA or a standard for the inventory interface; an extended network element having a second port with a second inventory interface; and a second pluggable AOM installed in the second port and coupled to the second inventory interface, where in response to a request to read a non-standard table entry, processing devices provide PLM information to the extended network element in a format for a physical layer management system.
