The pushrod (60) is configured to move along a centre axis of the insulating housing (10) to move the moveable contact (34) of the VI (30) to connect to and disconnect from the fixed contact (32) of the VI (30). The insulating housing (10) comprises a standardized interface (100) to which any drive (400) of a plurality of drives (400) can be mounted, such that a shaft of the drive, with a threaded portion (420) that matches the threaded portion (64) of the pushrod (60), is configured to move the pushrod (60) along the centre axis of the insulating housing (10).

    • The present invention relates to a drive for a low, medium or high voltage switch, comprising: a pushrod (10); a sun cogwheel (30); at least one planetary cogwheel (40); a carrier (50); a cogwheel ring (60); and a carrier locking device (200). An axis of the pushrod is coaxial with an axis of the sun cogwheel, and a rotation of the sun cogwheel is configured to move the pushrod along the axis of the pushrod. An axis of the carrier is coaxial with the axis of the sun cogwheel, and the carrier comprises at least one latching feature (52). An axis of the cogwheel ring is coaxial with the axis of the sun cogwheel. The at least one planetary cogwheel is located between the sun cogwheel and the cogwheel ring, wherein each planetary cogwheel of the at least one planetary cogwheel is connected to the carrier such that when the carrier rotates about the axis of the sun cogwheel a centre axis of each planetary cogwheel rotates with the carrier, and wherein each planetary cogwheel is configured to rotate about its own centre axis. The carrier locking device is configured to engage with one latching feature of the at least one latching feature of the carrier to stop the carrier from rotating, and the carrier locking device is configured to disengage from the at least one latching feature of the carrier to permit the carrier to rotate. Initiation of a first switching action comprises a disengagement of the carrier locking device from a latching feature of the at least one latching feature of the carrier. In the first switching action a rotation of the carrier about the axis of the sun cogwheel in a first rotational direction is configured to rotate the sun cogwheel in the first rotational direction to move the pushrod along the axis of the pushrod in a first direction.

    • The present invention relates to a switch (1) for a switchgear, the switch comprising: a cylinder (20); a piston (30); a contact (50); a pin (60); and a stored energy unit (100). The piston is configured to move within the cylinder from a standby position to a released position along an axis of the cylinder. When in the standby position the piston is spaced from the contact and electrically isolated from the contact. When in the standby position the cylinder is electrically isolated from the contact. When in the released position the piston is in electrical connection with the contact. When in the released position the piston is in electrical connection with the cylinder. Movement of the piston from the standby position to the released position is configured to move the pin within a bore (53) of the contact from a standby position to a released position. Movement of the pin from the standby position to the released position is configured to indicate that the piston has moved from the standby position to the released position. The stored energy unit is located within or associated with the switch such that activation of the stored energy unit is configured to move the piston from the standby position to the released position.
