摘要： Disclosed are antibodies that selectively bind to blood coagulation factor FVIII and highly sensitive immunological assays comprising these antibodies. Preferred assays can detect FVIII at about 3500-fold below the normal physiological levels, and have a wide array of applications including accurate monitoring of FVIII concentration in pharmaceutical products for treatment of blood coagulation disorders, and determination of FVIII levels in plasma of human patients, including those with blood coagulation disorders such as hemophilia.

摘要： Recombinant transferrin, transferrin half-molecules and mutant transferrins having altered metal-binding or other properties are described. The recombinant transferrin molecules are expressed in functionnal form by stable eukaryotic cell lines such as baby hamster kidney cells transformed with an expression vector encoding the recombinant molecule. The recombinant transferrins can be used in metal chelation therapy to bind and clear excess toxic metals in patients suffering from metal overloads.

摘要： Sap-collecting devices, systems and methods for sap-producing saplings are disclosed. The saplings each have at least one stem, which is cut to form a top end at a reasonable height above ground. The sap-collecting system includes a sap-collecting device that fits over the top end and forms a vacuum-tight seal with the stem. The sap-collecting device includes an interior and an access port open to the interior. The access port can be connected to a line system. A vacuum system is operably connected to the line system and forms a vacuum within the sap- collecting device. This serves to draw the sap from the top end of the sapling, through the sap- collecting device, through the line system and to a collecting tank. A plantation growth, management, and sap-collecting system that comprises the sap-collecting system and a stand of saplings is also disclosed.

摘要： The present invention provides methods for inhibiting blood clotting. In general, the methods include adding corn trypsin inhibitor (CTI) to blood or a blood product in an amount sufficient to inhibit the clotting. The CTI can be used alone or in combination with other anti-coagulants. In one aspect, the invention features plasma clotting assays featuring substantially prolonged clotting times. Clotting assays using whole or minimally altered blood are also provided. Further provided are methods for storing blood or blood products at low temperature with the CTI.

摘要： A non-phosphorylated peptide or functionally equivalent composition binds to an SH2 domain of a signal transduction protein with high affinity. In particular, the composition binds to the SH2 domain with an affinity similar to that of at least one phosphorylated peptide that is a natural target for the protein.
