    • Provided is a bending apparatus which can solve the problems of the prior art which carries out two-dimensional or three-dimensional bending of a long metal blank having a closed cross section.
      A bending apparatus has (a) a first manipulator (27) which constitutes a feed means which feeds a hollow metal blank (25) having a closed cross section in its lengthwise direction, (b) a second manipulator (29a) which supports a first support means which is disposed at a first position and supports a metal blank while feeding it, a heating means (5) which is disposed at a second position downstream of the first position in the feed direction of the metal blank (25) and which heats all or part of the circumference of the metal blank (25) being fed, and a cooling means (6) which is disposed at a third position downstream of the second position in the feed direction of the metal blank (25) and which cools the portion of the metal blank (25) being fed which was heated by the heating means (5), and (c) a third manipulator (28) which constitutes a second support means which is disposed at a fourth position downstream of the third position in the feed direction of the metal blank (25) and which imparts a bending moment to the heated portion of the metal blank (25) by moving two-dimensionally or three-dimensionally while supporting at least one location of the metal blank (25) being fed to bend the metal blank (25) into a desired shape.

    • The invention provides: a method for bending a workpiece in which, in a bending process, while successively or continuously feeding the workpiece held by a supporting unit from an upstream side of the supporting unit, bending is performed at a downstream side of the supporting unit; a bending machine; and a bending-equipment line. The bending method includes: supporting the metal material with a movable roller die; controlling the position of the movable roller die and/or the moving speed of the metal material; heating the metal material in a temperature range in which the heated portion can be plastically deformed and in a temperature range in which quenching can be performed, by using a heating unit that is provided around the outer circumference of the metal material, to apply a bending moment to the heated portion; and rapidly cooling the heated portion, by using a cooling unit that is provided around the outer circumference of the metal material. According to the present invention, even in a two-dimensional or three-dimensional continuous bending operation in which the metal material is two-dimensionally or three-dimensionally bent in different directions, and even when a high-strength metal material is bent, it is possible to effectively obtain a metal material having excellent shape fixability and uniform hardness distribution at low costs. Therefore, the bending method of the invention can be widely applied as an art for bending sophisticated automobile parts.

    • A method and apparatus for three-dimensionally bending a metal material are provided. A product intermittently having a bent portion which curves three-dimensionally and a quenched portion is manufactured by a bending method which performs bending downstream of a support means while feeding a metal material which is supported by the support means from an upstream side towards a downstream side. A portion of the metal material is heated by a heating means for the metal material downstream of the support means, a bending moment is imparted to the portion of the metal material which was heated by the heating means to carry out bending by three-dimensionally changing the position of a movable roller die which is disposed downstream of the heating means and has a plurality of rolls which feed the metal material which was heated by the heating means in the axial direction, and the metal material is quenched by spraying a cooling medium at the portion of the metal material which was heated by the heating means by a cooling means disposed between the heating means and the movable roller die. Errors in a product due to bending are suppressed by supporting a portion of the metal material which has exited from the movable roller die.
