    • A canister-type magazine (2) for a fastener driving tool (1) using a coil of tandemly arranged fasteners (22). The magazine (2) comprises a substantially cylindrical body having a top (19), a bottom (12) and side walls (11). The magazine (2) is openable, providing access to the interior thereof. A cylindrical magazine post (25) extends upwardly from the center of the magazine bottom (12). A pair of latch members (30, 31) are located in diametric openings (27, 28) in the magazine post (25) near the upper end thereof. The latch (30, 31) members are shiftable between a first position wherein they extend beyond the peripheral surface of the magazine post (25) and a second position wherein they are within the confines of the peripheral surface of the magazine post (25). The latch members (30, 31) are biased to their first position. A fastener coil supporting platform (34) is provided having a hollow center post (37) with an interior diameter sized to slidingly receive the magazine post (25). The platform post (37) has at least two pairs of diametric openings (39, 40) in its cylindrical side wall. Each pair of openings (39, 40) in the support post (37) are adapted to be located coaxially with the pair of openings (27, 28) of the magazine post (25) and to receive the latch members (30, 31) in their first extend positions whereby the platform (34) is lockable in at least two positions along the magazine post (25) to accommodate coils of fasteners (22) of at least two different lengths.

    • An adjustable depth control for use with a fastener driving tool (1) having an upper arm (32a), a coupling (38) , and a lower arm (32b). The upper arm (32a) is rigidly attached within the coupling (38), while the lower arm (32b) is threaded (34) into the other end of the coupling (38). The bottom of the coupling (38) contains a cam surface (46) which is biased by a spring (62) against a mating cam surface (61) on a retainer (50) which holds the lower arm (32b) within the guide body (20), and prevents the coupling (38) from rotating. The coupling (38) is moved out of contact with the retainer (50) and rotated to change the position of the lower arm (32b) with respect to the nose piece (22) of the tool (1).

    • A valve arrangement for a fastener driving tool (1) of the type having a cylinder (12) and piston/driver assembly (16) for driving a fastener, a main valve (29) which, when actuated, opens the cylinder (12) to air under pressure causing the piston/driver assembly (16) to drive a fastener, a remote valve (44) which, when actuated, causes the main valve (29) to open, and a trigger actuated valve (48a) together with a workpiece responsive safety actuated valve (10a) which, when both are actuated, actuate the remote valve (44), the valve arrangement being such that the safety actuated valve (10a) must be actuated before the trigger actuated valve (48a) in order for the remote valve (44) to be actuated. The trigger actuated valve (48a) has a trigger-operated stem slidably mounted within a valve body. The body defines a chamber in which one end of the remote valve stem (62) is slidingly and sealingly engaged. Air under pressure within the chamber maintains the remote valve stem (62) in an unactuated position. A passage in the tool body connects the trigger actuated valve (48a) to the safety actuated valve (10a). The chamber is connected to said passage when the trigger actuated valve (48a) is open. The passage is connected to atmosphere when the safety actuated valve (10a) is open. One of the trigger actuated valve (48a) and the safety actuated valve (10a) is an on-off valve and the other is a pressure controlled valve. The pressure controlled valve precludes connection of the chamber to atmosphere via passage to shift the remote valve stem (62) to its actuated position unless the safety actuated valve (10a) is opened prior to the opening of the trigger actuated valve (48a).
